Among the many fine musicians and bands carrying on the musical traditions of Ireland, the duo of Randal Bays and Dáithí Sproule
stands out. Their ability to craft an engaging and powerful performance - full of warmth and good humor, while staying true
to the spirit of this ancient music, has made them a favorite with audiences wherever they go.
The list of remarkable recordings they've played on and musicians they've worked with would fill several pages, most notably
Dáithí's membership in the world renowned band Altan, and Randal's groundbreaking recordings with fiddler Martin Hayes. But
it's their obvious love of the music and their pleasure in sharing it that comes across most strongly in their performance.
As one writer said of Randal's fiddling, his playing has power and passion, simply a joy to listen to. He's earned recognition
on both sides of the Atlantic for both his fiddling and extraordinary fingerstyle guitar playing. His recent live album, "House
to House" was picked by the Irish Times as one of the "Top Five Traditional Recordings of 2005", and his guitar
playing was recently featured on the Shanachie Records recording, "Masters of the Irish Guitar."
Dáithí is a fluent speaker of Irish Gaelic, and possesses a remarkable repertoire of songs in both Irish and English which
he delivers with a wealth of interesting lore. He's generally considered to be among the top guitarists in the world of Irish
music, and was one of the pioneers of DADGAD tuning for the guitar. The Rough Guide to Irish Music calls Dáithí "a seminal
figure in Irish music."
